Double Sided Coin

As y’all may have noticed I speak a lot on what I view as a double sided coin. Things like the magic and the mundane, masculine vs feminine energies, etc. Naturally because like I’ve previously mentioned I tend to operate under the law of polarity.

This week I decided I should speak about one of the first ‘coins’ I noticed which helped me understand the myself, the world around me, and then build my practice. I was a person with a very rigid sense of justice; things were either wrong or right with no exceptions. In the long run this way of being is not only limiting but deprecating to mainly my own self concept. To see something in its’ entirety is to see it with the pros and cons too. When is it too much and overbearing? When is it necessary or serves a purpose, even if you may not like it? If you cannot see them both you are not done looking.

The example I would like to share is Violence. I personally do not think violence should be anyone’s first option in anything, it isn’t something I condone. I believe most people genuinely just need to be spoken to in order to clearly understand what is happening, the consequences, results, and the {alternative} choices available to them. Now, where is violence necessary? We do not get to chose how people learn. Even if it isn’t person to person, pain teaches limits and invokes caution and refinement naturally — that is it’s purpose.

What this spectrum looks like for me is verbalizing a limit the first go around, verbalizing that I will use physical defense if the issue continues to be pressed the second go around, and lastly by the third time I will engage in violence. Despite the fact that I do not condone violence I am not above it. In order to find the ratio that works for me I first needed to acknowledge where both sides are useful and where they no longer have a stronghold. If I continue to just say that I will without following through this just becomes a bargaining chip to pull power in my favor. If I never speak up I also veto the audiences’ autonomy to have a part in their own consequence. If they choose to persist after those warnings they have already consented to the possibility of an unfavorable outcome and will be more aware if they want to continue to engage with me moving forward or in the least, learn to respect my words knowing that I mean them.

This example can easily be woven into a few concepts; Boundaries, Spectrums, and self concept. This example is obviously more tangible because of how it imposes on others, but this is just one way we can make the double sided coin tangible. Something I think is imparataive to the growth of an individual is to find your double-sided coins. Acknowledge the good and the bad, what their purposes are, where they become obsolete, and build your bridge based on what your needs are today and where your sense of integrity is. Of course, at any point if you needed help figuring some of these things out we can always do it together as a team by following up here.
