The Spirit of Creativity & Inspiration

This week I wanted to dive a little deeper on the illusive nature of inspiration and creativity.

Let’s start with creativity. What we should remind ourselves is the process of creativity is innately chaotic. There is no regimented or fool-proof routine to creation and because of that logic has no place here. Facts, numbers, and planning will have very little if any foothold here. Creativity is a luxury and will only find you when you are receptive to it. There needs to be a decent level of self trust, curiosity, and play. Criticism, control, and ego will naturally scare creativity away. Remember that creativity is working the realm of possibility. You need to believe it to see it, more often than not. You cannot assign strict guidelines to something that has yet to exist, its point is to express not to appear polished.

Moving us right into Inspiration, like I mentioned before there is no system to being inspired. You cannot preplan how it will find you which is why they expression is being “struck/hit” with inspiration. It is something that finds you instead of something we chase. Much like creativity in itself, it is a very feminine aspect (by now you should know that I am not assigning a gender role to anything, this is simply yin and yang). Creativity much like inspiration want to find a way to exist in reality. First it will go to the person who can make it the most vivid version of an idea, but if this person does not answer the call (maybe because of perfectionism, etc) then it will simply go to whomever will birth the idea.

Both of these fluid energies need a judgement free space that will not diminish its’ form with the illusion of perfection, but multiply it for it to live and possibly grant it longivity in the world. Think of things like Mozart and sample culture in music. Even if the original is strong on its own and idea is made to be built on after the original source was bold enough to allow itself to be used as a channel. Since I’ve brought of music. there is even a running joke from Michael Jackson saying when he had an idea he had to run to get it out or else Prince would create it. He is not saying either party ism’t talented or that one is a theft, but is illustrating that ideas to not belong to us in the way we think. It is an energy all on its own and will find the vessel that is best prepared and compatitiple with it.

That process of finding/utlizing a compatitible vessel is what I would call the act of inspiration. Being able to be an eliligible to be chosen or even receptive to this process is work I feel each individual has to do on their own. Attuning ourselves to the nature of creativity and discovering the process that best works for us. Being bold enough to know you like to dance and even finding your favorite genre is the act of honing your capacity for creativity within your vessel. Being able to come up with choreography is the byproduct of the collaboration.

Alright y’all that’s all the food for thought I would like to share. Have a great week everyone!
