Tarot Talk: The Hierophant (V)

How could I not mention the Hierophant during Taurus season? Happy Birthday to all the taurus sun’s that come across this.

Let’s get into it! Now, in my experience this card has a few split meanings and of course one implicit thing I would like to add. Up front this card is about learning. In the same way as the phrase, “When the student is ready the teacher appears”. You can either become the student or the mentor (or being guided to seek one) when this card visits. Another thing about this aspect is I find more often than not it isn’t about who is the teacher or the student, it is Spirit guiding us through a lesson we were meant to learn anyway. This can be as big as a universal law or as small as understanding an opposing perspective by being placed in someone else’s shoes. When it comes from this perspective I would note that phrase “You haven’t truly learned something if you can’t teach it to somebody else”. Things you can asks yourself are: “What is this experience trying to teach me? What can I learn from the people around me? AM I even willing to learn from others and if not what is stopping me (ego check)? Where do I notice the people or systems around me are progressing vs. getting stuck? Can I or they help or collaborate?

The second aspect I’d like to talk about is just like Taurus who is grounded in the body — the hierophant tells us to acknowledge the systems that exist today. Taurus is a slow and steady kind of vibe. You have to nurture the mini to get the max, highlighting dedicated effort over momentous strides. How this fits into the Hierophant is respecting Traditionalism. The structures that have prevailed have lasted through time for a reason. This is a sign to asks yourself; How much do I know? What systems have had longevity and why? Is there a route that is already paved that I can follow (apprenticeships, higher educations, certifications, etc)? Do I feel like there is more to learn?

Now something that I feel is implicit about this card is when it comes to the second aspect beware of hubris, if you act like a know-it-all and refuse to humbly become a beginner again is when systems become obsolete and can no longer stand the test of time. Keep your mind malleable. Secondly, there needs to be a clear difference between conforming and innovation. “this is the way we always have done it!” doesn’t mean it still is the best or only way to do it. If it doesn’t drastically impact the results allow yourself to innovate to honor the times we are in or the uniqueness of the individual. Sometimes having flare is the superpower. Other times we just need to stay focused and be sure we aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel (If it’s not broken don’t fix it). Easier said than done of course and I am aware I’m leaving you with a lot of things to consider. As always though if you are being mindful and present of your own situations and experiences your discernment will aid you in what aspect is calling out to you and what implications should be considered.

Anyways, that’s all from me y’all, hope this helps!
