Tarot Talk: Seven of Wands

Welcome back to Tarot Talk! As we close out Aries season and move into Taurus let’s talk about the 7 of Wands.
Most times we associate card with “standing your ground” and will power, which is true! What I would like to add to this is the implicit. Will power is not easy to cultivate or as simple as light-switch conviction. Often times I’ve noticed when this card is present they are telling you the usual things that give you the confidence or battery in your back are unavailable so there essentially is nothing to validate you making a good or bad decision.
For example, if you’re used to calling your friends for fashion advice this can look like choosing what to wear to an awards ceremony and they either are unavailable or just have no comments about your choices. The 7 of wands is asking you in particular to double down on a choice. Whether your external validation mechanisms encourage you or not — ultimately the decision and the consequences to it belong exclusively to us, the individual anyway. This is saying your decision and the next course of action has to be yours alone, something that rings so true to you that you will stand by it without support. The seven of wands is asking you how much does this matter to you? Does it matter enough to do it scared, alone, and uncertain?
Remember, Courage is not the absence of fear. It is being afraid and doing something about it anyway. That in mind the more we show up for what scares us the more we understand about the world around us and ourselves. Fear is illusive which is why it can be dramatized. Reality will either confirm or deny where we did not have enough information to be sure before and whether the result is good or bad, we will be able to plan or expect with more certainty thanks to experience and not something easily fabricated like expectation and fear. I went on a bit of tangent there, but overall that is what I wanted to add as food for thought when the 7 of wands pays us a visit.
