Tarot Talk: Death (XIII)

Welcome back to more Tarot talk with ya witch! Let’s jump right into it,

The elephant in the room when it comes to this card is much like the devil — taking it too literally. Spoiler; No one dies… physically at least lol.

To understand the Death card you also need to understand the energy of Pluto and thus Scorpio being that this is their tarot card. Pluto in an astrological sense is the planet [no pluto slander!] of the taboo. Money, debts, sex, life, death, rebirth, inheritance, and the shadow (the realm of secrets or things we prefer to keep hidden). Thus this planet asks us what are we dwelling in and is that even good for us? What are we complacent is a smaller version of ourselves?

The easiest way to paint this picture is an onion. We all have a core, but the many layers and almost shell that sits at the forefront is a protective layer to shelter and even sometimes hide what we deem as fragile but valuable parts of ourselves. The work that needs to be done is to keep pulling back or protective measures to get to liberation of our authentic selves. When you see the Death card shows up something may need to come to end, but it’s because you no longer need the protective sheath that got you there in the first place. It’s encouraging you to rally the courage to end the facade of “protection” or security the situation seemed to provide because you are strong enough to begin anew with a wiser and authentically transparent self. That is where the rebirth gets to arise again. The death card can be beautiful but like most of what people fear it highlights the impermanence of cycles and targets the aversion we have to begin our change for the better.

I hope this was helpful to those who have come across this and if there is any other cards that people are pondering feel free to let me know! Happy 2026 everyone!
