Plant Parent Craft
As you’ve probably noticed I am a big fan of milking something for all it’s worth and always in favor for working twice as smart than twice as hard.
This week we’ll bounce off of last week’s Hearth post into more of that natural way of living. What’s more natural than plants, right?
Last week we spoke about how to add a bit of magic to the mundane in an inconspicuous way; This week we are gonna talk about potted plants (aka plant magic)! Whether you have a green thumb or not, there’s something here for everyone. I for one, have a few potted plants in my home mostly apart of the cactus/succulent family (if you don’t have much of a green thumb start there! They are hard to kill). Plants just as anything else existing naturally in this world, have their own metaphysical correspondence. Overarchingly, plants add a grounding element to the space they’re in due to being tied to the earthly realm, sometimes filtering the excess energy in a space.
Plants like succulents and aloes tend to have a protective nature as they are great at perservering in the wild and are usually spikey. Things like snake or spider plants can also double as protective or purifying for their more practical uses in a space. I have an Aloe for example, she is another layer of protection for my home. When she is struggling outside of practical reasoning, I can easily interpret this as a need to check on the energies of those in my home or the home itself. Honing in on my own energy, boundaries, and doing a cleanse of my physical and energetic space. When my plant is thriving I know that the energy around me and my home is strong and abundant.
Plants don’t just stop there, I have a more ‘fun’ plant for example, a Pink Polkadot plant (Hypoestes phyllostachya). The qualities she holds are almost as clear as things you can see on her. Affection, cheerfulness, she’s a mood carrier, raising the energy in a space (which i’d recommend if you tend to be low energetically or have more than 1 person entering this space frequently). Being that it’s already proven that speaking to plants improves their growth, I noticed in my own space regardless of if the window was open or closed, middle of the night or midday, she waves at who ever is nearby. True to her nature, seemingly extroverted as well as the fact that she would sprawl out to touch the plants near her (I jokingly say she carries baby sister energy). Now I’m not saying that if you also get this plant you will notice the same behaviorism.
What I am saying is plants have their own nature, correspondence, and utilizing magic doesn’t have to look like spell-casting, cauldrons, and candles to be mystical. Plants are alive and innately should be taken care of as the living things they are. Research their significance/metaphysical correspondence (if it’s good for purifying the air or a herb like chamomile good for regulating the nervous system, allow your brain to take it a step further). In the same way each flower has a meaning, lotus for example known to represent spiritual enlightenment. If grown and nurtured may grant heightened discernment, fortitude, and resilience. Herbs may need more conscious attention or space to be taken care of, be mindful of what you or your space may need and what the plant itself will require from you. Your relationship with energy needs to be symbiotic.
To reiterate my second point: Once you’ve done the first step (listed above) the more you nurture it the more you will become clear of how it communes with you. Picking up it’s personality, what it brings to a space due to noticing how you or others may behave around it, and based on how well it is working on for better or for worse energetically. That’s a bit of my plant magic 101! Good luck y’all!
